Great Quotes from Watchman Nee

Watchman Nee Too Sheng died a martyr's death in China in 1972. He was imprisoned for his faith by the strict Communist Regime of the Chinese Government.

In prison Watchman Nee led many to know the salvation of God through Jesus Christ.  When his ministry to fellow inmates infuriated his guards the Warden cut out his tongue.

Nee was able to continue saving souls just by laying his hands upon them.  His hands were cut off.  Then he just looked at them through the eyes of the love of Jesus and they were saved.  They burnt out his eyes.  He died soon after having served our Lord Jesus to the outermost.

The following quotes come from his book, The Release of the Spirit.

"Jesus was anointed before death for burial by the woman who poured out everything she had (the alabaster box) in worship and love for Him.  Those who came after His death to anoint His body found the tomb empty and they were too late."

The vessel God wants for His work is not prepared by hearing a lot of things, but by seeing and receiving and being satisfied.  It's understanding is based on the life of Christ within, not on information about Him.  God's power on Earth cannot be maintained by what we hear but only by our knowledge of Him."

"Quietly, God is raising up a vessel which is truly His house.  It consists not of single outstanding individuals, but of humble men and women who have been welded into one by the Cross."

"To achieve unity we must turn our back on the ruins of our past life and face towards the House of God and prayer.  The heap of ruins also contains our hopes, ambitions, expectations and self-esteem."

"Those who have not seen themselves by nature judged and cast upon that heap of ruins (our own opinions and independent ideas) have not found their place in the Body of Christ."

"The characteristic of those who truly know God is that they have no faith in their own competence, no reliance upon themselves i.e. no confidence on the flesh."

"You cannot stand and fight for God if there is one scrap of worldly scheming, or planning or ambition left in you.  It is only when the world has lost its power to touch you that you can do this."

"Lord Jesus, do whatever Thou deemest best in my life."

"For God to use you as a minister of the Word, for you to be God's mouthpiece, you must seek God's favour by praying:  'O God, do a work in me, to break, to divide my soul from my spirit."

"Revelation enables us to see what God sees.  All things are naked and laid bare before Him.  Any covering is upon our own eyes, not God's.  When God opens our eyes that we may know the intent of our heart and the deepest thought within us, in the measure that He Himself knows us - this is revelation."

"Meekness, born out of the fear of God, is the Holy Spirit's sign for brokenness.  One broken by the Spirit naturally possesses meekness.  His contacts with people are no longer marked by that obstinacy, hardness and sharpness which are the hallmarks on an unbroken man."
