The Unity of the Holy Spirit

Scripture: Ephesians 4 v 1 - 6: "  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2  With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3  Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

The Holy Spirit, our Teacher, Strengthener and Comforter, wants us to be in unity in our spirituality so that we conform completely to Him.  He is the third person of the Trinity and is never an 'it' or an 'influence'. He can be grieved and quenched and lied to - with serious consequences! Acts 5 consequences!

The Body of Jesus Christ needs to be in one accord!  That means no divisions, sects, denominations, disharmony or arguments over doctrines.  If Jesus is coming for one body we are in for a long wait.  His body is in pieces the world over.  The Holy Spirit is the unifying Person who seeks to eliminate the fractures in the Body.

These fractures are caused by false doctrines bringing heavy deception to the Church.  Born again Christians are ambassadors for the Kingdom of God and need to speak the truth with one voice.  They need to assess every teaching that it should never deviate from the Word of God.  The woke churches are totally deceived into being politically correct, similar to the Pharisees Jesus dealt harshly with 2000 years ago.

2 Corinthians 6 v 14 - 18: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15  And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

There are very few churches that have complete unity, especially large congregations.  What does bring unity is severe persecution!  When there is pressure on the universal church to disown our faith in Jesus and join the Interfaith crowd, or die, if we refuse we must present a united front.  As the above passage of scripture says loudly, Come out from among them and be separate.

The coming Antichrist is going to provide this pressure after he has run out of the charm offensive, bringing world peace that is foreign to him.  When the churches reject his advances to join his One World Church he will turn nasty.  This is why I believe in a Mid-Tribulation Rapture.  All the unbelievers will follow the Antichrist and betray Christians to him to get rid of conviction of sin from the Holy Spirit in us.

This is why they don't want to talk religion with us.  Or much else.  When they are in our company the Holy Spirit is busy convicting them of sin.  It's a very uncomfortable feeling for them.  It's easier to get far from us than feel the heat.  Friendship with the world is enmity with God.  Do we want to be God's enemy?

When we are in unity with Him we will be in one accord in the Body of Christ with no divisions or differences or discord of any kind. The exhortation to be in unity with the Holy Spirit means that we are fully submitted to the will of God and to each other.  This is what Jesus is returning for!  Let's start the process now before severe persecution forces it upon us.

It does not just mean great harmony in worship while singing in tongues together although that can greatly encourage unity and be part of achieving it.  It certainly enhances our unity with the Holy Spirit.  Unity means that we all believe the same things as far as doctrine is concerned.

We cannot be united if some are in the Roman Catholic Church praising Mary as Co- Redeemer with Jesus Christ.  Or if some are Jehovah's Witnesses denying that Jesus Christ is God.  We must all be born again according to John 3 v 3.  That is the first step.  We must THEN be baptized in water.  Infant baptism is a false doctrine.  We must not follow Judaism and go back under the Law which Paul rebuked in Galatians, Who has bewitched you that you have rejected the Spirit to go back under the Law?

What we really need to focus on is unity of purpose to line up with God's actual will for us rather than what we think His will should be. We know His will is for all men to be saved. What we don't always know is what we as individuals should be doing to achieve that.

We all have different abilities, talents, strengths, skills and functions. The Holy Spirit wants to harmonise all those into one effective, well-oiled, whole evangelistic machine. That "machine" is the consecrated Body of Christ consisting of born again believers wherever they are on this planet.  It needs total obedience to God's perfect will.

Every born again saint has received the Holy Spirit at the moment Jesus comes into your heart. After baptism you can, and should, be baptised in the Holy Spirit. The word baptised is from the Greek word BAPTIZO meaning "immersed". Just as you are immersed by water baptism you need to be immersed in the Holy Spirit. The evidence of this is usually that you begin to speak with other tongues.  Even Mary, the mother of Jesus, was in the Upper Room on the day of Pentecost and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with tongues!

Acts 1 v 13 - 14:  "And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14  These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."

They were all in one accord praying and waiting for the promise of the Father.  Altogether 120 Christians were in the Upper Room when they heard a sound like a mighty wind but there was no wind.  There appeared tongues of fire upon their heads and strange languages poured forth from their mouths.  It was a supernatural reversal of the Tower of Babel when God divided people by giving them strange tongues to try stamp out the Satannic worship of the Babylonians being spread to innocent people.

When you speak or sing in tongues your spirit is refreshed, your soul released and you are edified or built up in the Holy Spirit. In this way He can begin to engage us in different ways to achieve the purpose and will of God. The closer you get to Jesus and listen to His voice the closer we will get to one another spiritually speaking.

When we are in unity with the Holy Spirit we are able to be led as a flock and guided to the right pasture to eat the correct nourishment that will contribute to us going in the right direction to achieve God's purpose for the Body of Christ.  Consider a flock of birds flying, wheeling, turning and moving as one.  Perfect flying formation.  That's what the Holy Spirit wants to achieve in us.

So endeavour to be in unity of Spirit through seeking God through fasting and prayer to determine His true will for your life and you will find yourself coming into a whole new experience in which you flow with others in spiritual awareness of your true purpose and God's real plan for your life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father we want to do Your will to achieve Your purpose and it needs us being in unity with the Holy Spirit. Change me Lord to conform and flow with all other consecrated Christians to glorify You and edify the Body of Christ. In Jesus' name. Amen.
