Walk in the Light

Walk in the Light

Scripture: 1 John 1 v 7:
"But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the Blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin."

The highest expression of our love for Jesus is that we walk in His Light. He said I am the Light of the world. The world lies in the darkness of in and deception and He came to bring Light so we, like moths, would be drawn to the Light.

At first it may hurt our eyes because we were a long time in a dark place but gradually we acclimatise to His Light because it is truth. Before we knew Him we made our own truth and some of it was, but not all and its hard to change what was the norm before Jesus.

One of the ways we know that we are fully in the Light is our ability to have fellowship with one another. There are some people that you can have sweet fellowship with every hour of the day, every day of the week and they are true inspiration.

True fellowship is being able to share with one another how Jesus is shaping our lives; the revelations from the Word; the answers to prayer and the direction for ministry. If there are any dark areas in our lives they are exposed in the Light and His Blood washes them away.  So prayer forms an integral part of this fellowship, flowing in and around the conversation by the power of the Holy Spirit.

One way a Christian can tell if another has moved out of the Light of Jesus is if the dynamic of fellowship changes. If there is a loss of freedom and spontaneity in your encounters then check to see which one of you is out of line. If you know that your walk is clearly in the light then you need to pray for those who have turned aside.

Realise that what is in your heart comes out of your mouth so that which dominates your thoughts and conversation is your true master. If jesus is truly the centre of your life then thinking about Him, talking about God, having prayer and Bible study is sheer delight. If your centre of attention is your job, your sport, your car, your bank account then that will be what you find interesting in conversation. The people who care for your soul pick up on these issues and hopefully pray for you to get your priorities right.

We have to wean ourselves off the distractions of the world. They are Satan's weapons and snares to entice us away from fellowship with Jesus and other Christians. Our top priority must always be Jesus first, ourselves last and others in between. That spells JOY, and the joy of the Lord is our strength. In Matthew 6 He says Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these other things will be added to you.

When Jesus adds them there will be no snare or sorrow attached. If we get the priorities wrong somewhere down the line it becomes a problem that needs time effort and money to fix. So if you walk in the Light Jesus will guide you around the pitfalls because that Light enables you to clearly see them.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we are on this planet for one thing only - to find our way to You through Jesus our Light in the darkness. Every other thing we do besides that is just vanity. We convince ourselves we need that demanding well-paid Job, expensive wheels, fancy clothes, classy material goods for others to envy, when they become major distractions to truth, peace, joy, love and salvation. Father open our bling-blasted eyes to see the true riches that are hidden by the darkness of this world. In Jesus' name. Amen.
