The Last Supper

Scripture: Matthew 26 v 18:
"And He said, Go in the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand: I will keep the passover at thy house with My disciples."

The Last Supper was a Passover Seder that was celebrated by God's commands to Moses in memorial to the deliverance of the Jews from slavery to Pharoah and the Egyptians.  This same Moses, together with Elijah the prophet, were together with Him on the Mount of Transfiguration. It is believed that these same two prophets are the very ones who are spoken of in Revelations 11: Whose deaths caused such joy to the people on Earth.

In the Passover, unblemished lambs are selected from a special field where they have been set apart. The Lamb God the Father selected was His Only Son. Unblemished by the world, sinless, pure, holy and set apart for this purpose.

The lambs are slaughtered by the priests ready for the ceremony. Jesus was taken, after the Seder and condemned to death by the High Priest on false charges.

During the Last Supper Jesus broke the unleavened (no yeast) bread and told His disciples that it was His body broken for them. He likewise poured the wine saying it was the blood of the New Covenant, which they should drink in memory of Him.

Everything about the Last Supper was to stir up memories and institute new ones. In Jeremiah 31 v 31 God says that He will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel. This supper was the beginning of it. It was God's Last Will and Testament, being made valid by the death of God the Son.

I read the testimony of a Jewish man, Stan Telchin of New York, who was searching the New Testament for answers he could use to bring his newly born again daughter back to her Jewish roots. He was thinking of the covenant God made with Abraham through circumcision. It indicated blood and death (cutting off).

He cried out that man had done his part of the covenant, but when did God bleed and die to fulfill His side of the covenant? He then had a vision of Jesus on the Cross. It led to his salvation, and he is now a pastor. The book is called Betrayed, a recommended read.

This covenant and the Death of Jesus means that by God's grace everyone is forgiven of their sins, and every promise can be fulfilled as the Will is now valid, and all it contains is ours. Therefore it is important to know what is in the Will, by reading and examining it closely you will know what your inheritance is.

There was an illiterate cleaning maid employed by Buckingham Palace who retired and was given a letter from the Queen. She died a pauper. This framed letter hanging on her bedroom wall stated that she should present this at the Bank of England to receive a generous pension. So read the Will and find the riches God has for you.

Prayer: Father God, Your Son Jesus is the most amazing; most powerful; most loyal human being who ever graced this Earth with His life and presence. We owe Him our lives and all we possess. Open our eyes to the meaning His life, death and resurrection is to us and let us be excellent examples of it to the unsaved world. In Jesus' name. Amen.
