Scripture: James 5 v 13 - 16: "Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
Exodus 29 v 6 - 7: "And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre.
7 Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him."
In the Old Testament, the first person to receive anointing oil was Aaron the brother of Moses, when he was consecrated the high priest of Israel. God instructed Moses to make the oil and pour it upon his head.
Thereafter high priests and kings of Israel are anointed with this oil, which came out of the one and only unique batch. About 25 years ago, according to Grant Jeffrey's video of the Qumran caves, where the ancient original Bible texts were discovered, through use of equipment from NASA, they found this lost bottle of oil.
Exodus 30 v 22 - 25: "Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
24 And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:
25 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil."
They realised that there was one application of this holy oil left and it would be used to anoint the Messiah, the King of Kings, Jesus Christ, on His return to Earth. It can never be made to the exact specifications again as some of the plants are now extinct. The holy oil was also used to anoint the sanctuary and holy vessels of the Lord. The original weight of this oil was about 18kg.
The Holy Spirit is often likened to oil when He is poured out upon us, as He anoints us for service to the Most High. He sets us apart in holiness and purity to preach, teach, pray, heal and do miracles. It is a great and humbling honour to be chosen to serve.
Those churches or ministries that reject the baptism of the Holy Spirit and His incredible gifts never preach or pray under the full anointing and power He gives to those who speak in tongues, prophesy and do miracles, healing and deliverance. What they despise as devilish is actually the real power of God.
More people are speaking in tongues today, singing and praying in tongues, than ever before. People are interpreting tongues and being uplifted by hearing directly from God. I was in a church where a woman came forward for healing after a motor accident left her needing a neckbrace. While she was walking toward the pastor someone uttered a short message in tongues, the tone was urgent and authoritative. There was an immediate response also spoken with strong authority.....Remove the neckbrace! It was removed and without any prayer the woman realised her neck was completely healed and she glorified the Lord.
We are a kingdom of priests, part of the royal priesthood, set apart for the Lord to use as He wills. Every born again believer is a priest. Everyone filled with the Holy Spirit has full authority to baptize people, pray, manage Communion, lay hands on the sick. It is not just for the pastor or evangelist to do. Traditionally, the priest, minister, bishop is in charge and does everything, while the congregation watches and makes verbal responses from a prayer book.
This is not how Jesus wants us to enjoy our Father's House. He says when two or three believers are gathered together, He is in the midst. That constitutes church. Those two or three can have fellowship, Communion, healing prayer and sing praises to God. Jesus will be glorified, the saints will be edified, and Satan will be horrified.
We are not anointed to follow some denomination and its teachings, we are called to follow Jesus and obey His voice. He wants us to be spontaneous participants in the joyful feast spread before us, not some beggars suffering from religion.
The anointing oil is poured on us spiritually to live for Jesus. To talk about Him, share the testimonies of that which He does for us and be Ambassadors for the kingdom of God. At the mention of His name demons are terrified. They KNOW who He is and how He defeated them completely. Let us sing the chorus, if you don't know it make your own tune: Jesus, King of Kings, Glory, Halleluia! Lift holy hands and sing these words and add your own praises and you will know that oil of anointing is blessing you.
A word to the wise - there is no mention in the New Testament of anointing doors, windows, objects, only people, with oil. This was made famous by the books of Rebecca Brown and started a habit of using oil on windows to protect from demons!
We are protected from demons by the Blood of Jesus, the Whole Armour of God, our testimony and our obedience to the Lord. It's important to cleanse our homes of anything unholy or sinful that can attract demons. One strange lady had two baby buddhas in her home, leading to a very dysfunctional family life. She totally rejected the idea of smashing these idols. She was a big giver at church and the pastor obligingly "baptised the Buddhas" and made them holy!
So get rid of idols, books, dvd's, porn, statues, curios from Eastern, African countries made under the power of demons. Things like shrunken human heads are severely demonic. Carved African heads are made to honour the ancestors they worship and spirits of witchcraft and mediums can affect our spiritual lives. Our church was badly affected by souvenirs of handmade wooden spoons from Zimbabwe. Everyone kept falling asleep! The spoons were burnt and everyone was wide awake. Just saying!
If we want the anointing oil to flow in our midst we must keep everything clean and holy. Including ourselves mentally and emotionally. Let us honour our God by being the best Christians we can be in gratitude for all He has done for us.
Prayer: Father God, You gave us Your Son, and the Holy Spirit, to empower us for service to Your Kingdom. You anointed us with oil to separate us from the world. Let us not squander these privileges but conform to Your Word and obey You in all things. In Jesus' name. Amen.
