Hansel and Gretel

Scriptures: Psalm 119 v 128 - 131: "Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.
 129  Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them.
 130  The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
 131  I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments."

Proverbs 6 v 22 - 23: "When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
 23  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:"

2 Peter 1 v 18 - 19: "And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
 19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:"


The fairy tale goes that Hansel and Gretel were lured into the forest by a wicked witch, who wanted to destroy them. 
Hansel had some bread in his pocket which he used to drop crumbs so they could find their way back. The birds were eating the crumbs so that did not help. Then he found some white pebbles and dropped them to mark the path. 
The witch caged them to fatten them up to one day kill and eat them. They eventually outwitted her and escaped, following the pebbles back to freedom.

If you have been captivated by some form of witchcraft - magic, Harry Potter, mind control, some music (heavy metal, trance, rap), divination, sorcery - you will find yourself on a path of utter confusion. 

Hansel had some bread ie a little knowledge of the Bible but it was being eroded by fowls. He needed solid stones that would not disappear ie strong belief to hold on to.  Remember the parable of the Sower who went out to sow seeds of truth.  Some fell on stony places, some were choked by the cares of this world, some were eaten by birds and some fell on good ground bringing forth abundant fruit.

To prepare our hearts to be this good ground we need to be seekers of truth and weary of fantasies, illusions, philosophies of men, misconceptions of false teachers.  Lot was vexed by the filthy conversations all around him.  He was rewarded by being led out of Sodom and Gommorah by the Angel of the Lord before those evil cities were wiped out by God's wrath.

Hansel and Gretel were trapped and earmarked for death but they outwitted the enemy and escaped by following the true path to freedom.

Before we know Jesus Christ all we might have is crumbs of truth which do not sustain us when we are starving. We need solid teaching to survive the impact of the many deceptions constantly confronting us or we will become captured and caged; eventually in danger of losing our souls.

Deliverance from evil will come from Jesus as we follow the pebbles of His Word back to safety. Every word in the Bible is true and victory comes from putting our faith in God.  Do not neglect to thoroughly know all that is written in the Bible as it is the Bread of Life to our souls.  The depth of your relationship with Jesus is directly proportional to the time you spend understanding, and doing, what is stated in the Bible.

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank You for Jesus who is a lamp to our feet through the darkness of this world. Let the solid pebbles of Your Word lead us to the truth. In Jesus' name. Amen.
