Overcome All Fear

Scripture:  2 Timothy 1 v 7: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

When we are born again we have a new heritage.  We inherit the traits of our Heavenly Father!  He gives us power, love and a sound mind together with newness of life.

Fear is a spirit that wipes out our power, our love, and our mental stability.  It saps our strength and causes epic failure.  It is the instrument of the Devil, our archenemy, to control us and keep us from true faith in God.

Fear is the opposite of Faith in God.  Fear is faith in what the Devil can do.  Job put it well:
Job 3 v 25: "For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me."

Fear starts in our imagination...there is an imaginary noise in the house....we are convinced there is an intruder in the house....Fear of the unknown.....Fear of ridicule.....Fear of the dark.  The problem is when the Spirit of Fear, an actual entity takes a hold on us, it becomes the means by which that which we fear becomes reality.

An example from my life may illustrate it well.  I used to work as an estimator for a furniture removal company.  That Monday morning I arrived at a small rectangular house with no fence or wall, at the appointed time.  I knocked at the front door quite a few times with no answer.  Perhaps she is hanging washing at the back I thought so I went round to the back of the house and noticed a dog kennel at the same precise moment that the large, black, fierce, Rottweiler noticed me.

To my relief I saw it was on a chain attached to a steel pole.  It ran to its full extent towards me but I noticed I could get to my car without it being able to reach me.  The dog was barking hysterically and I made a dash for freedom.  To my absolute horror this monster of a dog, in its frenzy, broke its chain and landed on my back, knocking me flat.  I was expecting a mauling, even death at that moment and was praying my last prayer.  Nothing happened for a while!  I cautiously looked around and saw this dog trotting happily up the road.  It had downed the intruder - me - and was satisfied with itself.

At that moment, to my absolute astonishment, the lady of the house opened a window above where I was now sitting on the lawn gathering my shattered wits, and asked who I was!  She had been there all the time.

I was still too shaken to be angry so she gave me a cup of tea and said the dog always breaks the chain.  Harmless really.   Problem was it left me with a fear of dogs, and every dog I encountered after that could smell that fear on me!  Thankfully Jesus delivered me of that spirit of fear and gave me power, love and a sound mind.

Satan uses fear to coerce people into doing evil.  He has one agenda and that is to destroy the human race, God's creation.  It's the only leverage he has to hurt our Father.  It plays itself out in kidnapping and ransom, or forcing people to betray their country, employer or loved ones.  There is no evil too low for the Devil to stoop to to compromise and make us fearful.

Jesus calls him the Father of lies and every lie starts with him.  Revelations 12 v 10 - 12: "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12  Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time."

The overcoming victory over fear or anything else the Devil throws at us is the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.  We testify to the power in His Blood.  It is God's atomic weapon against sin.  No demon can come against those who are in a Blood Covenant with God.  No fear can survive the Blood of Jesus.

Just as the Blood of lambs set the Israelites free of slavery to Pharoah on that first Passover when the Angel of Death flew over the homes of the Hebrews but death took the firstborn of every Egyptian including Pharoah's own son, so does the Blood of Jesus our Passover protect those who have faith in Him.

Jesus Christ became our Passover Lamb when He took our death, sin, diseases, demons, on Himself on the Cross.  It even occurred at the time of the Passover memorial of the Jews in Jerusalem.  Even when Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem, it was the stable where the lambs selected for Passover were set apart.

The words "Fear not" appear in the Bible 365 times, one for every day of the year.  Jesus says perfect love casts out fear, and there is no love more perfect than His.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, Through the Blood of Jesus I am born again and set apart for God's purpose.  Through the Blood of Jesus, Satan has no power over me nor place in me.  Through the Blood of Jesus I am healed of disease and set free of fear, worry, doubt, sin and death.  Thank You Lord for releasing me to experience true freedom.  In Jesus' name. Amen.
