The Need for Obedience

Scripture: Deuteronomy 28 v 1 - 2: "And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2  And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God."

Isaiah 53 v 6: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."

From the days of Eden till now our Father has been instructing us to be obedient to Him.  Adam and Eve were shown the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and told not to eat the fruit of it.  They disobeyed God and the consequences were awful for every human born three after.

Genesis 3 v 3 - 5: "But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

Satan, the serpent, lied and sowed doubt into Eve's mind and contradicted what God had told her.  He also spoke some truth, Your eyes shall be opened!  And they were.

Suddenly they were thrust out of Eden into a harsh land which needed to be farmed.  No more free meals, now they had to sweat for their sustenance.  Their disobedience had removed them from God's presence and given the serpent control over God's creation.

Men became evil, animals became wild, plants became poisonous, and so did insects, spiders, scorpions and snakes.  Everything fell into chaos.  There was a need for obedience but only 8 humans achieved it.  Noah and his family.

Matthew 25 v 21: "His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

We need to be good and faithful to be rewarded and blessed by the Lord.  Disobedience ties His hands and prevents God from helping us in a crisis.  We need faith that moves mountains of fear, doubt and impossible situations to stay on track with Him.

Eve's faith was shaken by doubts and she slipped.  It happens to us just as easily.  Some smooth talker gets us taking our first illegal drug and before we think twice we are hooked into the nightmare world of a addict.  Or prostitution, or alcohol, or sold as a sex slave, or become a gangster.

There is One who truly obeyed and through His obedience brought our souls out of those dark places.  We must by absolute faith follow Jesus out of Hell into Heaven.  He made it possible for everyone to be set free from sin, shame and Satan.  He took the death Adam had purchased for us through his disobedience and gave us eternal life in exchange.

We must now follow Him on the path of life and obey the words He gave to His disciples.  You must be born again He said or you will never perceive Heaven.  You must be baptised in water thereafter and be filled with the Holy Spirit.  Basic instructions but many argue against them.  And then further compromise the Word because their foundation is not solid.

This is the time when the Antichrist is rising.  Just look at Zimbabwe the past week or so.  Fearful things are happening to the people by the government who have blocked the internet to prevent the news, photos, stories getting to the rest of the world.  In the meantime the President is flying off in his luxury airplane without a care.  This is ungodly and the disobedient will rue the day.

The South African government supports Zimbabwe and is becoming like it.  Seventy percent of the 535 members of parliament of the ruling party have been revealed as corrupt in some way.  We hear daily of massive bribes to get lucrative tenders, looting of state owned enterprises, poor service delivery, tax payers money being abused in various ways.  Lots of commissions of enquiries but zero arrests.  This is gross disobedience to the rule of law, let alone to the Lord's will.

We need to determine His will and do it without wavering.  No second guessing or making changes, just doing what He says to do and seeing great results.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father forgive us for doing things our way rather than Your way.  We have gone astray and need to be led back into true fellowship and obedience to You.  On. Jesus' name. Amen.
