The Truth Shall Make You Free

Scripture: John 8 v 32: "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

2 Timothy 2 v 8 - 9: "Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was."

The important question to ask is do we want to be free?  Freedom has many different applications these days and depending where the political divide appears in each person's understanding, it defines their brand of freedom.

Black slavery is having a field day since George Lloyd was brutally killed by a police officer, who may have been motivated to do it, so that there would be an uprising of note to spike news away from pandemics into the vacuum of public shock.  It has caused a pandemic of its own but no one is gaining freedom because the truth is covered in anarchy.

Jannes and Jambres were magicians and wizards in Pharoah's palace who could mimic the power that Moses had when his staff turned into a snake.  Their staffs also turned into snakes but Moses' snake devoured their snakes.  Moses had the authority of God Almighty, the wizards could not match truth with magic.  Freedom eventually came for the Jewish slaves to leave Egypt.  Today Egypt is one of two nations that have a peace treaty with Israel.

What sort of freedom do we want?  Freedom from debt?  Freedom from disease, drugs, alcoholism, because it all adds up to one thing...... sin.  This is our downfall.  Jesus took our sin and defeated its power over us.... Truth!  We got born again, forgiven, washed clean in His Blood, but not long after fell into sin again, said sorry but it happened over and over.

We need to understand that its only truth that makes us free of every thing that causes us to sin.  Today truth and sin have become unacceptable words across pulpits.  It's so old fashioned when its really a psychological problem, no one is at fault.  No rod needed for any child, that's abuse.

Why do we have to discipline and teach children to behave?  They should have freedom to develop as they please.  When a child is born now, from this week, the doctor or sister may not say you have a beautiful son or daughter as that is too gender specific!  Truth is out the window and for any Bible believer, we are now wrong about everything.

How the father of lies, Satan, delights in all this freedom that puts believers on the back foot.  We must not compromise with this snake!  Moses' snake can still devour him.  However it is getting harder for Christians to walk in truth when there as so many political banana skins underfoot.

Ephesians 6 v 12 - 13: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

And it is a wrestling match where two kingdoms meet to battle it out.  When we stand our ground as David did against the uncircumcised Philistine giant who had taunted Israel for 39 days.  On the 40th day, forty being a covenant number, David took on Goliath, who had no covenant advantage, and with one small rock slew him and the whole Philistine army were defeated.

Our freedom, our truth, comes from our covenant relationship with the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life.  He is Truth.  He is our freedom from all restraints.  He is our victory over sin.  Through Him we discern truth from error.

Through Him we have a spiritual armour upon us for our protection in the midst of every eventuality.  Jesus said, only believe, all things are possible to you.  So let us believe in the freedom from sin, sickness, eternal death we have today and keep living in it so others can be drawn into the only real freedom available on this planet.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Jesus is the way, truth and life, and no one comes to You except through Him.  Not through Mary, saints or prophets but only through Jesus.  He brings us to the truth about life, death and the hereafter, and teaches us to respect, honour and be kind to fellow humans.  Sometimes we get this horribly wrong and we ask forgiveness for every lapse.  Father, lead us into all truth so we may be free. In Jesus' name. Amen.
