Creative Intercession

Scripture:  Hebrews 5 v 12 - 14:  "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13  For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

Hebrews 6 v 1: "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,"

When God calls people into a ministry, He prepares, teaches and equips the ministers to perform their function to their very best.  My entrance into the ministry of intercession must be fairly unique in that God first had to remove me from formal church structures.

I was set adrift on a liferaft in a very choppy sea, with no land in sight and had to be utterly dependent on my Father.  However, He is extremely creative, and soon added unusual teachers to my wobbly existence.

My two sons aged ten and five years old at the time, became my teachers!  The words, a little child shall lead them, are true.  In my case, two of them.  I would like to share how one particular afternoon's work expanded into a series of miracles for the salvation of one man.

Our prayer closet was my bedroom and we would be comfortable on the bed or big armchair.  We would start by praying in tongues.  The younger one would suddenly say, Here we go!  He saw us three as him, a rocket, his brother, a jet plane, and me a hot air balloon, all being now airborne.  We were caught up in the Spirit and awaiting God's pleasure.  Lesson one, determine God's will.

Everything was very peaceful, happy and natural.  Chatting and expectant.  One of them was playing with a small metal car, pushing it over bumps in the duvet.  He said, Mom, I am in a car with 3 angels, we are going towards a cave where a man is tied up and helpless.

The journey involved detours, repairing a broken bridge, removing rocks in the road and negotiating tight corners to get to the victim.  He was untied and helped into the car, rescued.  We praised the Lord and thanked Him but did not know who the person was, and most of the time we never found out.

We heard that our neighbour's son, a twin, had died of an asthma attack.  They were a Roman Catholic family and we were recent arrivals in that neighbourhood.  I wrote to my friend in England to tell her the sad news because she had known this family.  When she got the letter (e-mail had not been invented yet) ten days later she immediately phoned me (unusual) and pleaded with me to pray for and give warning to the Father of the dead person.

I had never met him, nor even seen him and was very surprised when I was watering my garden to see him getting mail from his mailbox.  I shut off the hose and offered my condolences.  He was very sad and said he wished God had taken him instead.  I asked him if he would like to join us for tea and he said he would come later.

Before he came we prayed, and my younger child went into a trance and started a charade of trying to fix something behind his back.  We finally worked out that he was a diver and his aqualung breather was empty.  So in Spirit we prayed for it to be filled.

A few minutes later our neighbour arrived.  He told us he had not worked for many years because he suffered from asthma too.  (Aqualung out of air!).  He heard the gospel and received Jesus.  He was never a Roman Catholic.  We rejoiced with him.  We were leaving for eleven days in the Cape the following day but looked forward to seeing Don on our return.

When we got back home I saw Don's wife getting out of her car and went to greet her.  She said she was exhausted from having two tragedies in one month.  She said Don had died while we were away.  He had told her about his salvation and she was very happy he had found the Lord before he died.  Amazingly, if his son had not died, he would not have been saved.

The metal car had to get over a broken bridge, death of his son, then remove rocks in the road, my friend had to alert me to this desperate need.  Hairpin bends negotiated,  We met across the fence on the last possible day for us to pray for his salvation.  That's how creative intercession works when Jesus has full control.

This is how the Lord began our lessons, and taught me through the extraordinary spiritual exercises we were involved in for many hours daily.  Over time the Lord introduced us to shortcuts and signals like a hunter in the bush giving hand signals.

Our little team of three worked daily with the Holy Spirit, Jesus and the Father in complete faith and total compliance with the will of God.  Some of the results took many years to be revealed.  We actually saw quite a number on TV like Rescue 911 which totally floored us.

Even the program Knight Rider with Kitt the talking car assisted the Lord in getting us praying urgently for a stranger.  The car was captured and switched off so no one could reach it.  My son said turn tv down we need to pray for someone dying.  So we did and had to cut off and bind all sorts of demons.  One of the boys said the lines on the monitors in the hospital indicated the patient was breathing again.  At the very same moment the car in the tv program was restarting its engines. Both rescued.

About a year later we were asked to pray in a house in a nearby town.  It was apparently haunted.  One of the people present was Lynn who had a serious heart defect.  Her mother was there too and she told us how the year before Lynn had died for almost half an hour but had suddenly returned to life after being declared dead!  We worked out that it was the same night and time as the Knight Rider program was showing and how we rejoiced to meet one who had been set free.  Our God is amazing.  He uses whatever is necessary to find any little lamb in danger.  He gets all the glory for great things He has done.

We are merely tools or instruments He uses at times.  We have no more life than a screwdriver unless He picks it to fix something.  I share this creative type of intercession to hopefully inspire or reach some people who are being useful to God but wonder if its all okay to be free and informal.   The essential part is not our ability but our availability.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, our words are inadequate to tell You how great You are.  How You could use us in so many unique ways to touch the lives of the lost.  Father raise up families or groups to follow Your plans to believe in, and pray for, impossible miracles.  Thank You for this wonderful life.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
