Revive Us O Lord

Scripture: Isaiah 44 v 3:  "For I will pour water on him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thy offspring."

Isaiah 57 v 14 - 15: "And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
15  For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones."

The word "revive" means to make alive again or to bring new life.  Think of a paramedic using resuscitation procedures to restore life in one that died moments before.  Breathing into the mouth, pumping the chest to encourage the heart to beat, applying electric current through paddles.  And many times this works, but sometimes it fails.

Genesis 2 v 7: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

The first successful resuscitation of a dead soul was in the Garden of Eden.  And that first life-giving breath of God is still reviving souls.  Every person alive today is living on that first breath of God six thousand years ago.  Whether we know God or reject Him we owe our existence to Him.

When we respond to the gospel and believe that Jesus is His only begotten Son, when we repent in sorrow for our sins, we are reconciled to our Father, like the prodigal son was restored to his family.

We are born in sin.   Those things that happened before we were in our mother's womb, caused spiritual death on every soul.  The wages of sin is death and God had to find a way to revive us.  Genesis is not the beginning of our existence.  Its the beginning of our revival and salvation.

The Spirit of God spoke the word and His Son Jesus, the creator of everything, made this planet beautiful and bountiful for all the creatures to dwell in harmony, safety and abundance.  Through Adam's disobedience sin revived, and death stalked us again.

Colossians 1 v 14 - 16: " In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"

The sin and depravity was so bad that God was sorry He ever made Man.  He had to wipe out the whole world in a flood, only finding eight people worthy to continue the human race.  When He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham pleaded with the Angel not to do it.  Abraham was told that if only ten righteous people were found they would not destroy those cities.  Apparently not even ten people worthy of saving.

Sin absolutely destroys us.  Little sins, big sins, hidden sins, blatant sins, no matter what it is, no matter how good we feel in justifying it, it will kill us eternally sooner or later.  In Jeremiah 31 v 31: "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:"

Israel broke their covenant with God many times so God had to make a new plan, a new covenant not based on Law but on the grace and mercy of Forgiveness.   We are given amnesty, clean slate, because this new covenant was declared at the Last Supper be for Jesus died.  He took the Passover Cup and said, This is the New Testament in My Blood.

Whenever we take Communion we should truly think what those words mean.  Sin, causing death, replaced by Grace of God, bringing us eternal life.  The Blood of Jesus revives us, restores us and protects us from evil.  As the Angel of death passed over Hebrew homes in Egypt, because the blood of a lamb was on the lintels of their front doors, so can Satan not harm us who are covered by the Blood.  Jesus is known as the Passover Lamb.  Moses was the Deliverer working with Him to rescue Israel and put her in the Promised Land.

He will pour water on those who are thirsty - this is the Living Water Jesus spoke of in John 4 to the Samaritan woman He met at the well of Jacob. He walked 204 miles to have that encounter. How far has He gone to have an encounter with you?  Have you shown Him your gratitude and appreciation, through obedience and submission?

He will send floods on dry ground!  When a nation has many people rejecting the truth about Jesus it becomes spiritually dry. Right now the whole world is in "drought" including much of the Church. We desperately need revival because death is stalking the world and killing many in this pandemic.  Many do not know Jesus and are not covered by His Blood.

The last revival during the first part of the Great Tribulation will see millions of sinners swept into the Kingdom of God with miracles, healings, deliverance and Heavenly provision. It will be a time of wonder and praise of our Father and Jesus that will rock this world out of apathy into a frantic search for salvation.  If anyone alive today thinks this is still far in the future the penny has not yet dropped!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father send us the rain. Lord, send us the Holy Ghost rain!  We long for this revival of faith and salvation with all our hearts. Break the chains which bind our friends and families and set them free to follow You Jesus.  O Lord revive us, cover us with Your Blood and forgive our sins.  In Jesus' name. Amen.
