The Storms of Life

Scripture: Mark 4 v 35 to 41: " And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36  And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40  And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41  And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

The Disciples were with Jesus on a boat going across the Sea of Galilee to Gadara, where there was a desperate man needing all the help he could get.

On the way over a terrible storm arose that threatened to overturn the vessel which was already being swamped with seawater.  They saw that Jesus was sleeping peacefully seemingly not disturbed by the turbulent waves and ferocious storm.

They woke Him and asked if He wanted them all to perish in the gale-force winds and high seas.  Jesus rebuked the wind then stretched out His hand towards the sea and said, Peace be still.  Immediately the storm rolled away and the sea became calm.

These were still early days in their experiences with Jesus.  They were astonished that the wind and sea obeyed Him.  Who was this Man?  How could He control the elements?

No matter what physical, emotional, mental or spiritual storm we face our faith in what Jesus is able to do will bring peace to our hearts.  Did God allow that storm in the Sea of Gallilee to allow His Son to show His disciples that He was Master of everything?  It certainly built their faith and trust in Him.

Perhaps that storm was to prepare them for what was waiting for them when they landed on the far shore.  The Gadarene Demoniac!  A wild madman who broke the chains around him.  Maybe Satan sent that storm to sink their boat to keep that victim bound.  Jesus was having none of it.  He rebuked that storm and the sea was immediately calm.

Has the Lord allowed some storm into your life that's threatening to sink you?  Call on Jesus and trust Him to work it out in the best possible way.  Some storms roll away quickly, others return with renewed energy, it seems.  Is our faith in the storm's power or the power of the One who created all things?

Sometimes we need a storm to get us back on track.  If our attention has drifted away from God's will for us, then He may need to shake us out of lethargy, and get us praying against that storm.  The enemy will intensify the flashes of lightning, cracks of thunder, howling wind and buckets of rain.  That same Jesus in our hearts says rebuke him and all his dramatic effects.

There was a Christian woman in Kansas hearing the tornado warning sirens.  She saw this big twister coming towards her home.  She shook her fist at Satan and told him to get that thing out of there.  It turned down another street leaving that town without causing any damage.

Jesus gave us power and authority over all the power of the enemy.  We have to use it.  Like He did.  He came to show us how to take control of our environment, our circumstances and our lives.  If we neglect to do it, we may have to face some consequences.

We need to become a force of resistance that frightens Satan.  If we are baptized in the Holy Spirit we are fully equipped.  If we have on the full armour of God we are fully protected.  If we know our Bible and can quote scripture at Satan as Jesus did in the wilderness, we are victorious.

We may not see it immediately but we know it in our hearts.  We change our tactic to praise and worship of Jesus.  We have unleashed the power of God and we must let Him do what He does best.  Don't tell Him how to do it, He knows more than we do and is never defeated.

There are storms on the horizon that look ominous.  Financial storms, health storms, climate change storms.  The New World Order is making big changes to the way of life of its subjects.  The world.  Jesus says we are not of the world, we are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven just passing through.  Like a traveller to another country, its not permanent, just a visit.

The Lord will take care of us when the time comes.  He is never caught unawares.  So do not worry or fret over future things that have not happened yet.  Keep following in the footsteps of Jesus and we will not set off a landmine.

There is no doubt that we are living in the closing stages of waiting for the return of Jesus Christ to Earth.  This has sent Satan into panic mode to destroy this planet before He arrives.  Escalating the danger to Israel through condemnation is his modus operandi.  Destructive storms, volcanoes erupting, landslides, floods, diseases, lawlessness, civil unrest, food shortages, inflation, more taxation it never ends.

The only safe, secure and peaceful place is in Jesus who will shelter us and comfort us.  Put your trust in Him and know that He hears your prayers.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father,  Jesus calmed the storm that day and we ask for Him to use our faith to guide us through the days ahead.  We do know that the storms today are being handled right now, but we want to outwit the enemy when the chips are down. Teach us Your way O Lord so we can proclaim Your victory without ceasing!  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
