THE COMFORTER
Scripture: John 16 v 7-8:
".....if I go not away, the Comforter will not come
unto you, but if I depart I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he
will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgment."
- Jesus is telling His followers that He must depart to
leave a vacuum so powerful that it could only be filled by the omnipresent Holy
Spirit.
- The Holy Spirit I also called the Comforter who comes
near when we are burdened with sorrow. And He comforts us deep in our spirit as
only He can.
- He also convicts of sin. He open your eyes to the
eternal ugliness of sin and how it has destroyed you and filled you with
self-loathing.
- He convicts of righteousness, giving you a longing to
live moral, holy, pure, sin free lives.
- He convicts of judgment ie the awful consequences of
continuing your sinful behaviour ending in eternal separation from our Father
in Heaven.
So turn your life around today for tomorrow may not come
and you need to be sure that you have met all the requirements to spend
eternity in the right place.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, send the Comforter to show us our
faults and sins today while we have a chance to repent and declare You Lord and
Saviour. Amen.
