Scripture: 1 Samuel 16 v 1
"And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou
mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill
thine horn with oil. And go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I
have provided Me a king from among his sons."
- Because King Saul disobeyed God and the prophet
Samuel's Godly words to him, Saul was rejected as king of Israel. We must
expect the same result if we neglect God's commands - We will lose the most
cherished part of our lives.
- The Lord had already found a replacement for Saul; a
young shepherd boy named David. He found favour because of how he gently tended
his sheep. Samuel anointed David king while Saul was still alive.
- The long battle David had with Saul was designed by the
Lord to shape David into a mature man with skills in ruling an army; being a
poet; showing loyalty to a king who wanted to kill him; taking every problem to
the Lord in prayer.
- David was able to hear from God through the golden Ark
of the Covenant. It was like a telephone to the Throne of God for David. Only
when he had sinned was a prophet needed to give him the bad consequences of his
deeds; because sin blocks our ears to His voice.
- God has chosen prophets, kings, judges and finally His
Son Jesus to bring us the knowledge of the Kingdom we belong to. You are chosen
to bring Jesus' love and truth to the whole world. Find out from God how He
wants to use you and keep on doing it to plunder hell and populate Heaven.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, chosen and anointed by God the Father
to bring us back into fellowship with Him. Thank You for loving us while we
were still sinners. We are surrounded by sinners. Somebody told us about You and
now we must do likewise. Help us to reach out and touch someone today. Amen.
