Godly Dreams

Scripture: Genesis 41 v 38 - 39:  "And Pharoah said unto his servants, can we find such a one a this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? And Pharoah said unto Joseph, foreasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art."

Daniel 2 v 47: "And the king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou could reveal this secret."

Jacob, the son of Isaac, and grandson of Abraham, had a beloved son, Joseph, who was sold by his eleven jealous brothers to Potiphar the Egyptian.  They took Joseph's bloodstained coat back to Jacob, who mourned the death of his favourite child.

Potiphar's wife had Joseph thrown into prison because he refused her affections.  While in the prison he befriended the butler and baker of Pharoah.  They had upset the ruler of Egypt and been imprisoned to learn better.

Joseph interpreted their dreams correctly and before long they were back in Pharoah's service leaving Joseph to languish in jail.  Years later Pharoah has two dreams that no-one can interpret until his butler remembers Joseph in the prison. Joseph is fetched and correctly interprets Pharoah's dreams that 7 good years of favourable weather yielding abundant corn, will be followed by 7 years of famine.

Joseph recommends that an honest man be set in charge of the corn stores to have enough for the 7 lean years. Pharoah appoints Joseph to oversee this project and when the famine hits, his father, Jacob, sends his sons, the brothers of Joseph, to Egypt to buy corn. They find Joseph and bring their father to Egypt to be reunited with the son he thought was long dead.

Our God never has problems, He has plans and no matter how long it takes, His plans will be fulfilled in ways we could never conceive.  Through dreams and their correct interpretations God helps us grasp what is beyond our knowledge.

Daniel, a captive in Babylon for 70 years, also won acclaim by being able to interpret dreams by the power of the Holy Spirit. He was able to recall a dream Nebuchadnezzar the king had forgotten and give him the interpretation.  That this dream and its interpretation ended the life and reign of the king the following day did nothing to diminish the impact of Daniel's power.

Just like Joseph, Daniel was made the second highest in the land, and able to watch over his fellow captives.  Those who were jealous of Daniel tried to have him killed by causing him to be thrown into the den of lions.  King Darius was overjoyed to see Daniel alive and unharmed, and had those evil officials thrown to the lions instead.

Daniel 6 v 1 - 3:  "It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2  And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3  Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm."

When Cyrus the Mede became king, he showed Daniel the decree that released the Israelites to return to their own land.  Both those rulers, Joseph's Pharoah and Cyrus, recognised that the Holy Spirit was upon those men and that they were 100% accurate in their dream interpretation.

In Joel 2 v 28 comes the prophecy of the Lord pouring out His Spirit on all flesh ......your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. This is happening now with many people having dreams of judgment, hell, Heaven and the closing days of this age. It is one of God's ways of revealing the future to us.

Our Father sees far into the future and arranges many weird and wonderful experiences to bring us to our true life's calling. We just have to be ready to seize the moment when God puts us in the place of opportunity and authority.  Be sure that the Lord will carry it through to fulfilment and bless us abundantly.

In these last days our God is going to pour out the Holy Spirit on everyone in one last hope that none should perish. He needs us to be mature in the gifts before that day comes so we can help those who are suddenly revived to understand what is happening.

Let us not despise those who dream dreams sent by God to enlighten us.  Nor let us ignore them.  Let us listen and pray for more Godly wisdom to help us when the time of trouble comes.  He said He will always be with us so it will be necessary for us to know how to understand Him and put into action the things He says.

Hosea 4 v 6: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children."

The Lord always responds to the way we behave towards Him.  If we reject what He reveals then we will have to scratch around for the next morsel of information.  If we accept it with joy and obey what He says, then He will send much more. It is also very important that we discern truth from error, and this applies to prophecy, dreams, visions and Words from God.

Many people have a word from God to tell us but if we pray for discernment and wisdom we may find its what that person thinks God would want for us.  Check these words, prophecies and visions with the Lord.  He will reveal the truth.  Jesus said that one of the signs of His coming will be an abundance of false prophets and people claiming to be Him.

Yesterday a precious friend of mine told me of a vivid dream she had the night before.  She lives in a house on a hill with a retaining wall some way below.  In her dream she was walking beside this wall when a tunnel appeared in it.  She did not enter it but walked further on.  Suddenly a cave opened in this wall and she ventured in only to be confronted by a lion.

There was nowhere to go but back and as she turned to run she knew the lion would catch her so, praying for help and protection, she curled into a ball and played dead.  Immediately she felt a powerful protection over her.  The lion approached but she was safe.  She said it came so near that its fur was tickling her ear!  And that's what woke her!

She was praising God for His protection but I added that she could be interceding for many Christians who are having their ears tickled by false doctrines, false prophets and false words and that we need to pray for the Shield of Faith to protect them.

Prayer: Heavenly Father You initiate our opportunities; You arrange the circumstances; You prompt others into action; You fulfil Your plans for us; You give us dreams and visions. Help us to interpret these events correctly and let us not try to do it in our own strength for we will surely err. We want to be a blessing to You always. In Jesus' name. Amen.
