The Sword of the Spirit

Thursday Feb 28.
 Scripture: Ephesians 6 v 17; Hebrews 4 v 12.

The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Jesus Himself is known as the Word. His name is a mighty weapon against all the so-called power of the enemy. But our strength and protection is to know God's Word and do it. Jesus defeated satan in the Wilderness using the Word against him. We must know this weapon intimately as a great swordsman knows his sword. When we have used the Word in battle we have seen the enemy give way. Truth defeats his lies every time.

The Word is sharper than any double bladed sword and can expose our motives to the Righteous Judge. He is not fooled by our damage control attempts. He sees clearly into the depths of our souls. When we have been through some trials we begin to understand how vital to our lives this scrutiny is. Welcome it because Jesus is preparing you for future battles. The more you experience of His Cross working in your life to bring death to our ungodly side, the more victory you have over every circumstance.

So learn to wield your sword effectively; become skilled in knowing the Word; draw close to Jesus in prayer; make the enemy flee in panic from your ability to slice him with your knowledge of the Holy Bible.

Prayer: Father God this part of our spiritual armour is vital to our ability to overcome our enemy and subdue him. He fears the Word. He trembles at it. The more we know the less he can trouble us. Keep us sharp, Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.
